After months of speculation, Colin Powell endorsed Barack Obama on "Meet the Press" Sunday.
The endorsement comes as a blow to the John McCain campaign because former Secretary of State Colin Powell is not only Republican, but had personally contributed $2,300 to McCain's campaign last year.
"I think he is a transformational figure, he is a new generation coming onto the world stage, onto the American stage, and for that reason I'll be voting for Sen. Barack Obama," Powell said on the NBC talk show.
Of McCain's chosen running mate, Sarah Palin, Powell said she was not fit to be vice president. Powell went on to say that he didn't take his decision to endorse Obama lightly.
"It isn't easy for me to disappoint Sen. McCain in the way that I have this morning, and I regret that," Powell said.
